Rihanna:

As you can see from the above digipak of Rihanna's album 'Loud', it puts a lot of focus on her image which is a big factor that attracts her audience. It could be argued that there is no need to focus so much on her identity as she is a well established artist in the mainstream pop genre, but her audience enjoy following her style as she is regularly changing her image. For instance, she has red hair in these photographs, which fits in with the style of this album with the roses and floral imagery, but other albums may be more edgy. However, the use of the colour red does symbolise her passionate, fiery personality as a lot of her fans would already know that she is like this. Therefore the images themselves do not have to show her raunchy image, but the colour scheme does in a more subtle way. Because she is such an established artist with a fairly unique name, it is placed in small font at the top right hand corner of the album cover, with the name of the album itself being significantly larger and more visible. This font is very simple in its colour and where it is placed, allowing the main focus to be on Rihanna, which is substantiated as it is a closeup of her which takes up the whole front cover. The actual disks are the only aspect of the digipak that does not include an image of Rihanna on it. Therefore she is not overselling her image, and the disk is simple but still relates to the inside images of the digipak, as Rihanna is surrounded in roses. The lighter pink colour contrasts with the bold red, depicting maybe a more soft and beautiful side of Rihanna. The image on the inside is one image spread across three pages, which adds more simplicity as there is not a lot of images being crammed in. This makes the digipak and style of it more memorable to the target audience. There is an aspect of synergy being used here, as all the images are related somehow and will help to create a certain image for this album, which differentiates it from other albums of Rihanna.
Lady Gaga

This is a very dark image of Lady Gaga that is portrayed across all parts of the digipak. The name of the album itself 'The Fame Monster' is sinister in itself, so the digipak design emphasises this. Lady Gaga is known for her outrageous and individual style, so like Rihanna, it is vital to show her image on the digipak, so the target audience can follow her style changes. The black background colour represents a feeling of depression, which is contrasted to the bold, white writing that is very dominant and visible. The 'T' in the word 'monster' is a cross, which hints at some religious imagery as a basis for some of the songs in the album. Unlike Rihanna, Lady Gaga shows two different images of herself on the digipak, with outrageous blonde hair on the cover and her in a much more dark way on the back of the album cover, with long dark hair and running eye makeup. This immediately informs the audience of the theme of the album, with the dark imagery and gothic style. The photographs of Lady Gaga are not as prominent as the ones of Rihanna on her digipak. Lady Gaga is as equally established in the mainstream pop genre as Rihanna, but the mid shot allows the audience to see more of her image, but still being able to identify her.
